Wasilla, AK

No way to find her.Top three on the map in six months.

Aleah Childs had three years behind the chair, a specialty in extensions and colour, and no way for anyone outside her existing clients to find out she existed. Six months after we built her site and her Google presence, she was in the top three on the map across a ten-mile radius of Wasilla, with 379 people reaching her listing in half a year.

01The challenge

What they were up against.

In a small Alaskan town, the established salons are the ones locals already know. A solo stylist with no website and no map presence is competing on word of mouth alone — and Aleah had neither the time nor the appetite for self-promotion, so whatever we built had to work without her feeding it.

Aleah Childs built Sapphire Hair in Wasilla, Alaska on three years of experience and a specialty in extensions and colour. The work was already good. The problem was that outside her existing clients, there was no way for anyone to find out she existed.

02Strategy & approach

The play, and why this one.

Going from genuinely zero to the top of the map is a sequence, not a switch. First find the openings a newcomer could realistically win rather than attacking the searches the established salons already owned. Then a site built to rank around her highest-value work, then the Google listing, then the reviews and the local mentions that compound on their own.

  1. 01Research the local market first and pick the openings a newcomer could win.
  2. 02Build a site around extensions and colour — the work that carries her prices.
  3. 03Get the Google listing right, the single biggest lever for a solo stylist.
  4. 04Set up reviews to run without becoming her second job.
03What we did

How it played out.

01

A site built around the work that carries her prices.

A custom website matching Aleah’s brand and leading with her extensions expertise — built so we could control everything that helps it rank, and so she had somewhere professional to show real work.

Then the Google listing, and reviews that run themselves.

We set up and optimised her Google Business Profile, the single biggest lever for being found locally, and put review software in place so clients get asked automatically and Aleah never has to chase.

03

The compounding part.

Consistent business details across the directories that matter, then articles that catch people searching for hair advice rather than a stylist by name. Six months after the December scan showed her past position 20 for extensions, the June scan showed her at 2.85 across the same 113 square miles.

From no online presence to a business that markets itself
How fast it happened

Six months from nothing to the top three. The site and listing went in first; the map position climbed through the spring as the reviews and local mentions compounded.

What it meant for the business

From no map visibility at all to the top three across her ten-mile radius in six months — 379 people reaching her listing between April and September, and 3,700 appearances in search from January on. For a solo professional, that is the difference between relying on word of mouth and having a business that markets itself.

06Lessons & takeaways

What this means for your chair.

01

Pick the fights a newcomer can win

The established salons own the obvious searches. There are always openings beside them — the work is finding them before you build anything.

02

Your Google listing is your biggest lever

For a solo stylist, the map is where new clients come from. A properly built listing does more than any other single thing.

03

Set it up to run without you

Aleah didn’t want to self-promote, so the reviews ask themselves and the content works while she’s behind the chair.

What we’d do differently

Start the review software the week the listing went live rather than after the site. Reviews are the fastest thing a new listing can earn, and every month of a quiet listing is a month the map waits.
